Azure Database Migration Service (classic) – SQL Server scenarios will be retired on March 31, 2026. Before March 31, 2026, you can access Azure Database Migration Service in the Azure Portal or through the Azure SQL migration for Azure Data Studio powered by the latest Azure Database Migration Service version.
Azure Database Migration Service (classic) – SQL Server scenarios will not be supported after March 31, 2026. Beginning July 1, 2023, you will no longer be able to create new Database Migration Service (classic) resources for SQL Server scenarios. However, resources created before that date will continue to be supported through March 31, 2026.
If you are currently using the Azure Database Migration Service (classic) for migrating to Azure SQL database services – SQL server on Azure Virtual Machine, Azure SQL Managed Instance and Azure SQL DB, you can access SQL Server scenarios in Azure Database Migration Service through the Azure Portal or start using the Azure SQL migration for Azure Data Studio powered by the latest Azure Database Migration Service version.
Before 15 March 2026, please access Azure Database Migration Service through the Azure Portal or start using the Azure SQL migration for Azure Data Studio powered by the latest Azure Database Migration Service version to migrate SQL Server instances to Azure.
Note: Azure Database Migration Service (classic) scenarios for other technologies like MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Mongo are out of scope of this retirement.
